Using wavpack as external encoder to compress DSD files

Is it possible to use the mac version of wavpack as external encoder to compress DSD files with MC23?

I tried by selecting a dsf file, and then using 'convert format' / 'external encoder' by pointing to the wavpack executable, with parameter --import-id3 and extension wv. It does start converting, however it stops at 50%. Also the temporary file that is created has the wav extension, so apparently I am doing something wrong.

Any advise?
