AVI Videos
« on: June 28, 2003, 04:24:02 am »

My previous version of Media Centre played AVI Videos fine, but since upgrading to the latest version they don't.  Anyone got ideas how to get this working?

Is your avi on a CD or removable media?

Remember that AVI is a "container" for any of many different CODECS (such as MPEG2, MPEG4 (DivX, XVID), etc., etc.).  As Nila points out, it would help to know what specific CODEC is causing a problem.

As an example, I recently noticed that MPEG1s (VCDs) don't work with .avi extensions in the library (they show as audio only).  They still play fine, though.  Changing the extension to .mpg fixed the problem.

If you don't know what the codec is, get a program called AVICODEC, which will tell you the 4CC code for the CODEC.
