Newbie Help With Optimisation MC22 Fidelizer Pro Process Lasso
« on: February 03, 2017, 04:21:09 pm »

Hi everyone,

So I am hoping that someone using the same or a similar configuration may be able to help me with the fine tuning of my setup please. I use the Tidal desktop app on Windows 10 set to output through MC22 with exclusive setting enabled. Should pass through MQA be set on or off?

I have a Schiit DAC with its own windows drivers. In MC22 under options I set the DAC as audio output with WASAPI driver and exclusive opening.

These are all settings taken from instructional threads which I have read through but was wondering if there is any additional tips or improvements that can be made to the setup?

Fidelizer Pro and Process Lasso are running in the background from startup and perform their own optimization's.

Just pointing out that MQA isn't supported in MC (nor in Schiit DACs either). Plus I believe using any type of optimization programs, especially "audio optimization" like Fidelizer Pro is considered unsupported.

MC will not decode MQA, and if you do not have MQA decoding downstream MC (e.g. in your DAC), you should not tick the bitstream MQA option in Tidal. Tidal will then decode to a 24/96 pcm stream.

This is true, but I'm not sure if that makes a difference since Schiit DACs don't (and won't) support MQA.

It does, since it makes it possible to play the material in any system since Tidal decodes it internally. No benefits from mqa, though (if there were any). My experience is that Tidal's Masters catalogue contains a lot of high quality mastered albums, and doing it this way make them accessible to me.

The Tidal desktop app will decode to 24/96. If you have a MQA enabled DAC, it will further decode to 24/192 or 24/384 and it will also use its deblurring routines. In your case, enabling software decoding in the app will decode to 24/96 which will pass through MC to your DAC and the DAC will simply see it as a 24/96 signal and convert that to analog.   If you want, you can compare the decoded music with the non-decoded music by changing the setting in the Tidal app.  Personally, I would let it decode to 24/96. You may or may not hear much difference, but it cannot hurt and it may help.

I am reading Tidal will output 24/96 but my JRiver with WDM only receives 24/48 as input with Master files (set to exclusive). Anything I need to set differently in JRiver?

Thx!
