try upgrade jukebox8 library but program crashed
« on: June 26, 2003, 02:56:31 am »

I want to restore my jukebox8 library backup to the media center9. after a while, the pop up windows said the library upgrade failed. then the program ask me to reinstall the software!

Isn't the media center9 backward compatable? I have more than 60 mp3 cd-roms and made a lot of effort to update the jukebox8 library. But now since I want to use media center9, does that mean I have to start from the scretch?

the instruction given from the library upgrade window said it has to re scan the physical file locations. Can the development team make this optional? I am pretty sure those songs on the cd-roms won't change, neither do those songs in my hard disk. If I can't by pass this check, which will mean I have to rescan my whole cd-rom collections again!!

Files are rescanned because there are new database fields that we can't fill without querying the actual files.

However, there should maybe be an exception for CD files.

Any chance you could send your library backup to matt @ jriver.com (no spaces)

If we can reproduce the problem, it'll be fixed in a day or two.

Thanks!

Hi Matt,

The error message is just "library upgrade failed" as I remember, I think there was even no one item being upgraded yet.

The v9.1 still doesn't work for me even after I reinstalled the software
for several times. But I tried this on another clean machine, it is
working fine. I doubt even v9.0 may be good as well. It is my machine
which is messed up due to different versions of jukebox conflict.

Now the question is how can I clean up my machine? Even after the
uninstall and I cleaned up some of the information in the registry file it
is still not working.

Thanks!

A few possibilities:

  • The old installation is messing things up -- you could uninstall, erase the registry, and any J River stuff under "Program Files" on the hard drive.  Then reinstall the latest.

  • There could be a hard to catch bug in the upgrade routine.  Try feeding it only the mediafiles.jmd instead of all the data files.

  • Export an MPL playlist on a working version, and import it on the non-working version.  It's a roundabout way to do a library upgrade.

Let us know if you find any more hints.  Thanks.
