Like I said, the volume slider in JRemote on the iPhone controls the volume as well. That slider sets the volume on the yamaha.

Yamaha's MusicCast app does it on iOS (and iPadOS).  The volume controls on the iPhone can control the volume of MusicCast's playback (e.g., to either a generic DLNA Renderer or to a speaker such as the WX-010).

The attached image shows the settings page within the MusicCast app.  Note the "Control volume with iOS buttons" option.
