Can I extend the length of the EPG to 14 days?
« on: November 05, 2017, 10:46:45 am »

Hello!

I would like to know if it is possible to extend the length of the epg in MC23 x64 to more than 7 or 8 days? For example, with epg123 on Windows Media Center, we can select the amount of days to show for the epg (and it can go to 14 days). In MC 23, I get maybe 8 days if I am lucky.

I am using Schedules Direct (same as for epg123) and have tried both mc2xml and xmltv versions for the epg.

Thanks in advance for any/all suggestions!

Yes, you can, easily. Two things are required.

1) You need to have the 14 days of EPG data available to use in MC.

You seem to have that already by the sound of it.

2) You need to edit the Theatre View Guide view to show more days.

The Guide view is defined in "Options > Theatre View > Items to show" and "Details". If you highlight the Guide in the Items to show list, then click on the "Set rules for file display..." on the right, you will find some custom rules. One of those rules will be something like;
[TVTime]=>#TVGuideStartDate-7d

You need to change that to;
[TVTime]=>#TVGuideStartDate-14d

That is all. The Guide will now show up to 14 days.

Have a read of this post which shows the rule setup, and has some information about the default rules: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,112294.msg776276.html#msg776276

Hi!

Thanks for responding. I adjusted the settings per your instructions, but alas, it is still not extending the epg beyond this time next Sunday.

Not sure what the problem is now. Is there something I need to do with schedules direct? With epg123, I tell it how many days I want and it downloads it from schedules direct without me having to do anything.

Separately, I have tried to reset the guide settings and it still does not ask me which service I want to use. How do I force it ask me?

Thanks again for your help!

Unfortunately, I'm not an expert in your situation, because I'm not in America.

But there is some good information in the Wiki and the Forum to help.

I know that if you are using an external version of mc2xml, not the one built into MC, you can and should specify the number of days EPG you want. I'm not sure about setting the number of days using the built-in version.

Did you read the whole article at: https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/EPG#MC20.2B ?
There is a thread on USA TV setup written by ContryBumkin: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,100319.0.html
Olus of course the TV Setup artcile: https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/TV_Setup

Those are probably the main sources, but there is a lot in the Wiki if you search for "TV".

I use Schedules Direct, and I can confirm that it did work for me.

a couple things:

1. Be sure to click on the 'Guide' under the Guide heading.  If the rules don't show the '7d', then you are on the wrong setting
2. I did restart Media Server and the Media Center. Not sure if that is needed or not, but I did.

I was showing data all the way from today (Nov 7th) to Nov 20th, where before I only got a week.

I am having the same issue with limited 7 days of EPG.
Unable to retrieve more than 7 days from Schedules Direct using the built in SD function.  Do you have any suggestions to retrieve more than 7 days?

JRiver MC: 26.0.69 64 bit
Guide Mode: MC2XML
ZIP: 60056
ATSC

Edited the Theatre View, Guide, Guide view to show 14 days.

The Theater View setting change allows you to display 14 days of data if your EPG already contain that much.  If mc2xml is only downloading 7 days, you won't get any more than that no matter how you configure Theater View.
