Video playback not smooth - stutters every 3 secs.

I got MC23 on Debian stretch but video playback has a millisecond pause every 3 seconds. Play file is local, I reduced resolution to 720, but still continues. I tried same file but using Video tool from Stretch and it play ok without the hicup.

Environment is an Intel NUC w/2GB ram and this video playback is over HDMI

Any ideas?

Playback is on your linux box?
Check for the X server in use.
Nouveau is know buggy.
