Retag Rewrites Entire File

Sometimes I retag some files in JRiver and it seems to rewrite the entire file moving the old file now with (1) at the end to the recycle bin. Has anyone else encountered this? I've noticed that it has happened quite a few times when I've replaced cover art.

It's rather annoying because my library is stored on a NAS and JRiver churns for quite a few mintues creating these files.
