Changing the location of files

(1/2) > >>

B17NNS:
Hi all and Merry Christmas.

I'm transferring my Flac files from my Mac desktop to an external hard drive.

How do I tell JRiver that I've moved them and where I've put them?

Thanks in advance.

Awesome Donkey:
Well, are you using the Rename, Move, & Copy Files tool? The Wiki has a topic on moving files: https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Moving_Files

I assume you could open the external drive in the Mac Finder app and see if the files are indeed being moved there.

B17NNS:
Appreciate the response. No, I've just dragged the folders from my Mac hard drive over to my new external drive. I'll take a look a the wiki.

B17NNS:
Is there any other way of doing this? My collection is over 1TB and I've already spent a day copying it onto the external drive.

I could do a fresh import but I'd lose my playlists. There must be a way of telling JRiver where to look if you move your files?

RoderickGI:
If you would rather move the files manually, then tell MC where they are now, then use the RM&CF "Find and Replace" functionality.

A simple case would be that you move files from thein internal C: drive to an external E: drive, so just find "C:" and replace with "E:"

I would advise copying the files rather than moving, not just for file security but also so that MC doesn't try to remove the record of the file if it is no longer found on C:. Read up about Auto Import and the "Update for external changes" and "Fix broken links" settings. Plus you will need to fix the "File Location" settings.
