UHD/HDR/3D Setup
tij:
rec head ... got your PM but have no idea how to attached files in PM
so to help you out could you tell me you 1060 driver version as well as windows version and build (run winver)
also some description of the problem for 3D and UHD
tij:
here is my madVR settings ... things to be aware
I run Windows 10 ver 1709 build 16299.125 (run winver to find out yours) ... 1070 with 360.95
MC 23.0.91 64 bit with madVR ver0.92.10
my 3D are named .mk3D (use in MadVR to distinguish 3D content ... there are other ways to do that too)
TV is LG E6
everything is working UHD, 3D, HD, SD ... but i need to do some tricks at Windows sart up
dont want to go into details as it can create confusion if our problems are unrelated
my seggestion ... reset MadVR settings to default ... then get UHD and 3D and HD working ... only then play around with MadVR image refinement settings to see how far you can push your GPU without frame drops
tij:
--- Quote ---After updating Windows 10 yesterday HDR isn't working as nicely. The HDR flag gets sent to the TV for almost everything and it looks bad. Somehow Windows HDR setting keeps getting turned on.
--- End quote ---
my guess (without knowing version and build of your WIndows 10 ... you can check it by running winver) ... is that your Windows has not been upgraded to Fall Creators Update (1709)
before i updated my windows to 1709 ... after playing HDR movie ... HDR got stuck ... meaning TV stay on HDR after movie stop ... all colours look overly saturated
this problem dissapeared for me once updated to 1709 ... Windows did not update automatically though to 1709 even though my setting were set to automatically update my Windows ... I have to manually go to Miscrosoft website and update my Windows to 1709
also update your NVIDIA drivers to latest version (mine atm is 360.95) ... as AwesomeDonkey mentioned, it contains fix to Spectre2 vulnerability
my advice is to reset MadVR settings to default (there is a .bat file in MadVR folder that does that) ... and get 3D and 2D (including UHD) working first before modifying upscalers for best picture quality (frame drops are usually indication of setting too high quality in MadVR that your GPU cannot handle fast enough)
after resetting MadVR settings ... set up "devices" in MadVR according to your TV (HDR passthrough) ... from what i remember, this will get all videos running nicely in JRiver ... HDR will no longer get stuck ... at this point I recall that only 3D was not working consistently
let me know if its same for you ... then I can help you to trouble shoot how to get 3D working
rec head:
So after HDR getting crazy after Windows 10 updated I updated my Nvidia driver and it seems to be working again.
Now to get 3D working again.
My setup is:
Windows 10 v1709 build 16299.192,
MC 23.0.94 64 bit,
Nvidia 1060, driver version390.65,
TV is a 2016 LG E6
When my desktop is set to 3840 60Hz HD (1080P) and UHD (3840) play fine but 3D doesn't work. MadVR settings are at the basic except HDR passthrough is checked. Windows HDR setting is OFF.
3D on this TV is so good that I'd really like to get it working again.
tij:
3D on 2016 LG OLED is indeed stunning ... I had Samsung D8000 before, 3D was terrible there (probably what killed 3D as Samsung had more TV sales) ... but that's a separate discussion
SO it does seems your trouble is same as mine ... I will post steps to remedy it ... see https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,113941.0.html for full discussion about it
reset your MadVR setting to default ... then madVR setting these are bare bone necessary setting to get it working:
[rendering -> stereo 3d]
enable stereo 3d playback: check
when playing 2D content: disable os stereo 3d support for all displays
when playing 3d content: enable
retore os stereo 3d setting when media player is closed: uncheck (dont think this part matter ... just personal preference)
create profile for [rendering -> general setting]
one for 3D ... check enable automatic fullscreen exclusive mode and delay playback start until rendere queue is full
one for 2D ... check use Direct3D 11/present frame for every VSync and delay playback start until rendere queue is full
my 3D files have extension mk3d ... so profile switching logic is simple
if (fileExt = "mk3d") "name of 3D profile" else "name of 2D profile"
... now the hard part (this had to be done everytime windows restart)
(1)in nvidia control panel(cpl) i set 1080p23 with 3d off
in windows cpl 3d off too (hdr off too)
(2)close both cpl and then restart computer ... once restarted i wait till everything loads (not sure if thats necessary)
then i open both windows and nvidia cpl
in windows cpl, turn on 3D ... nvidia cpl will automatically on 3D too
(3) then in nvidia cpl change resolution to 4k 60Hz 32 bit RGB 8bpc fulldynamic
(4) then in windows cpl turn 3D off ... nvidia cpl will automatically update 3D off
(5) then in windows cpl turn 3D on... nvidia cpl will automatically update 3D on ...
now 3D setting is link between NVIDIA and Windows ... so madVR can switch it
Final step ... if i use 4K resolution for windows and turn TV off ... that 3D link gets broken ... if yours does same, then only option is to run Windows in 1080p23 or 1080p24 ... so your MC will be in HD ... but when playing movies it will switch to 4K ... not a too terrible trade off to get it working
Let me know how it goes
