For a while I was manually changing MC's Display Switching when going from 4K which is now my normal view to 1080 for 3D. Like I said before for some reason now it all works. When I get a chance I'll get some screen shots of my Display Switching settings and my madVR settings.

Unfortunately 3D needs MadVR ... and frankly speaking MadVR has outstanding scaling quality (not to mention that for me it prevents Windows from doing dynamic contrast)

Ctr+J gives you a lot of info on whats happening when running RO HQ ... so screenshots of that helps to troubleshoot your problems

My advice ... set scaling options to lowest first and get everything working ... only then can try playing with different scaling to see whats is acceptable to you and what your hardware can handle

On my system everything is scaled to 4K but running at native frame rates (you can obviously output HD at 1080p and let TV scale it, if your hardware is not up to it) ... only 3D is output at 1080p

PS. people get confused a lot by scaling  (and options available in MadVR) … basically MadVR will do 2 scaling

first is chroma upscaling (content is usually provided in 4:2:0 … first 4 part is basically black and white image they call "luma" … 2:0 part indicates that some color info was ditch to save space and they call it "chroma") from 4:2:0 to 4:4:4

then is scaling to resolution you want to output ... its a 2 step process too ... luma is scaled and chroma is scaled to match resolution you want
(ppl usually agree that quality of luma scaling is more important than quality of chroma scaling)

To this effect ... MadVR will have option for scaling 4:2:0 chroma to 4:4:4 (not so obvious in MadVR options) ... and option to scale to luma and chroma (this were people get confused as they thought they already set up that ... but in fact it was for 4:2:0 to 4:4:4) to match your output resolution
