trying to play video MC 23 (23.0.90 or any previous version) returns 'something went wrong with playback' (iMac/Sierra 10.12.6)   

goin back to MC 22 = video plays as expected, no problems.

MC 23 doesn't see the video files in it's import path either.
MC 22 does.

I'm clueless.

I don't know what caused the problem but the fix was:
Load MC23 library into MC22 without the settings and backup. Load library with the settings from the MC22 backup into MC23.

I spoke too soon.
the above procedure made MC23 load the video files into the library but playback still doesn't work giving me the 'something went wrong with playback' error.
I'm givin' up and stick with MC 22 which works just fine.

the other day I installed a fresh copy of MC23 and noticed that the installer installs a 'mac_avcodec' folder into the plugins folder of the user library without plugins.

The previous MC22 works fine but has 5 plugins in that same folder: libavcodec-jr.57.dylib, libavfilter-jr.6.dylib, ibavformat-jr.57.dylib, libavutil-jr.55.dylib & libswscale-jr.4..dylib

I was wondering if that could be the reason why I can't play any video files under MC23.
I tried copying the plugins but it still wouldn't play in MC23.

It should definitely be downloading and installing those files as well. Make sure MC can access the internet when trying to play a video for the first time.

I could have saved myself HOURS of troubleshooting with that bit of information.
It def did the trick and should be mentioned somewhere...a pop up in the installer could be a good place.
