Hi,

I have only 2 speakers and use 2.0 jrss downmix when playing back MC audio tracks (movies, concerts, SACDs).
I noted that Center channel volume is set back (compared to FL or FR).

I saw this topic.

What is the normalized downmix applied with JRSS ? Is it the following one ?

Left: -12.1 dB
Right: -12.1 dB
Center: -15.1 dB (3dB lower than L/R because it is being sent to both)
Sub: -8.0 dB (4dB louder than L/R because LFE is normally +10dB and summing bass frequencies among two channels is perceived as +6dB)
Left Surround: -15.1 dB
Right Surround: -15.1 dB

Now, I'm looking for a way to increase volume of the center channel (+3 db) before JRSS downmix be applied, whitout lossing JRiver stuff done regarding dynamics and clipping.

Someone told me:

Force output to 5.1
Go to Room Correction (RC) and apply own levels
Go to Parametric Equalizer 2 - Create rules for mixing your center, sw, RL and RR voices to your FL and FR voices. A "Mix Channel" rule by voice in "Move" mode (the signal is removed from the original channel).

It's a little obscure for me to understand that.

What's the best way to achieve what I need ? Can you please describe how to put this in place ?

I read this but looks like there is no solution (working fine).
Hope that MC admins and dev will read my topic and will answered to this point.

Maybe an improvement (or new feature) to put in place here for a next release... I'm sure I'm not the only one MC user who needs this !

What is the normalized downmix applied with JRSS ? Is it the following one ?

I checked and it looks like Surround/Rear channels are played back at the same volume as the Left/Right channels.
Other than that, yes, Center is -3dB and LFE is +4dB, relative to Left/Right.
 
I believe that is a "technically correct" mix, but there are reasons why people might want a custom mix instead.
There are no options to alter the mix, or move Output Format to a later stage in the DSP chain.
 
If your sound device supports it - and many do not - the alternative is to output a 5.1 or 7.1 signal and create your own mix using the Parametric EQ - which, as you've found out, can be quite complicated.
 
Personally, I am less interested in editing the mix than moving Output Format to a later stage in the DSP chain
