UHD Graphics 630 vs HD5670 for HD movies
« on: January 15, 2018, 09:26:51 am »

I just built a media server with an ASRock Z370 board (I-3 8100)  with intel UHD Graphics 630 (onboard GPU).

Went from Window7 to Windows10  - previously using and old Radeon HD5670 1GB GPU.  Movie quality was spot on with the 5670, but with UHD630 onboard graphics, the picture doesn't seem as sharp and looks washed out. Via MC and TMT5.

I'm gonna tinker with the brightness, sharpness, etc. settings, but maybe the HD5670 will produce a better image no matter what.  Planning to buy a new GPU down the road, but not today.

Thoughts?  Anyone had success with onboard HDMI for HD?  Nothing else changed in my setup, cables, video processor, etc.  Newest intel drivers as well...

In my early day's of using iGPU and HDMI 1.4 Red October works for me. But the PQ was a little bit diferent compared with AMD or NVIDIA graphics.
For HD Red October HQ should work with standard settings (no tweaking in madVR). How is PQ then?

I'll give the ROHQ a try.  I wanted to be sure that JR media center was stable  before tweaking on this new build.  On my last machine JR would drop out audio/video for 2-3 seconds at a time. Usually once per movie.

With the new install I've watched 3 movies with no issues so far.

Things I notice with onboard graphics - on screen dispaly for AVR, the color is off compared to other HDMI devices.  It could be brightness that needs adjusted, but I've never had to make manual adjustments before.
