MC doesn't behave nicely doing resource intensive tasks

Memory Playback has always been controversial. I'm not going to engage in that debate.

Sorry, but... if there is a feature in a product, whatever the product itself, I suppose there is a "need" that the feature addresses.

The need to to have memory playback si to avoid disk or network activities during the playback, and this is obvious.

Then, swithcing fron one track to another and having MC loading from network while playing is something that does not match to the above sentence "... to avoid disk or network activities during the playback..."

That's all.

There is no "need" for a lot of features in products. Features may be added because it's good marketing (my washing machine has umpteen pointless washing programmes, about 4 is more than enough) or enough people clamour for a feature, or maybe the developers like the feature.

A lot of modern devices are virtually unusable because of feature bloat combined with appalling interface design. (You could argue that JRiver suffers from these.)

In the case of memory playback I'd guess that it was fairly easy to add and kept a small, vocal section of users quiet. (Despite the fact that there is no "need" at all for memory playback!)

Here here! If this thread turns into a another unnecessary debate on memory playback it will get shut down.

To the other members contributing to this thread (ie not RoderickGI) please use another thread for that discussion if you must, or ideally, read the other historical threads on it and refrain from posting at all.

Awesome Donkey:
Audiophile myths and claims aside, using memory playback useful when doing 1:1 comparisons with my main library and backup library. If memory playback is disabled, a file that's playing is in-use (and locked) and it throws off my tools to check for changes between libraries. With memory playback enabled, it doesn't do this, so that's why I use it.
