I'm really wondering about this great work of you guys! You make me surprise every few days since months - my deep respects!

Here are some more wishes from myself:

1) disc sets handling
Problem: I'd like to rename all files in the same way. The "rename files from tags" option offers good possibilities but:

How can I handle multiple disc albums?

I have files tagged like
e.g. Led Zeppelin - Remasters CD1, Led Zeppelin - Remasters CD1

I would like to handle it as one album but keep the CD info somewhere in the file path or name to keep it sorted. So I chose to create a new field "CD Volume" which I only fill up for multiple disc albums with the predefined values CD1, CD2, ...

Then I setup a rule for renaming like [Track #] - [Artist] - [Name]. With the new field I would like to add [CD Vol] e.g. [CD Vol][Track #] - [Artist] - [Name]. But so far MC only accepts system fields. Ok, I used the field [COMMENT] instead. This basically works but if the field is empty it shows "unknown comment" instead of nothing. Could you allow to include conditional field values (if field is empty then write noting or whatever I define) ?

2) Intro Playback function
It's a big task to tag all files. I'd like to have an option that allows me to play only 5 seconds of a song - if possible with an selectable offset, e.g. play all files from second 30 for 5 seconds

What do you think about this?

3) Redo last operation
I loved the option to choose from the last 3 operations I did by right-clicking. You reduced this to one operation. Could you make this number selectable in the options menu?

4) Definion of user defined hotkeys
As I use certain functions quite often I would be quicker in accessing them by shortkeys. Why not allowing to define shortkeys for all program menu functions?

5) Virtual Files / Albums
I have songs which are stored in a various artist album + artist album + ...
Physically I would like to see that file only at one place - why? disk space is not the main argument - more important is that you have to tag all these files two or three times. I use additional user-specific fields and so tagging becomes a lot of work.

What about an option like "Convert to virtual file" which then would delete the original file and create a 1 kb file which refers to another physical master file?

Enough for today - I would be glad if you comment my suggestions.

#3 is possible now if you're comfortable editting the registry.

You can rename using custom fields now.  I do it all the time when I rnemae things like TV series.  Just make sure you have set iy up with a keyword and use the internal name rather than the display name.

Sounds good but does not work. What I did:

Create field "CDVOL" category extended keyword entry "cdvol="

In the rename section I add [CDVOL][TRACK #] - [ARTIST] - [NAME] for filename - the result is "[CDVOL]01 - Jethro Tull..."

What is wrong?

You used cdvol= as your keyword? Try [CDVOL=] in your renaming scheme...

Try using the display name instead then.  I rememebr there being some issue about this.  For me the internal name and the display name are the same so it is not a problem.  I have done a successsful rename of series using [Series]  - Series [Series #] - [Episode #] - [NAME] so I know it works okay.

Nevermind... I just looked and realized I didn't have a clue what I was saying.

I just tested this myself.

I created a new field called CDVol. The Display name and the actual name were both CDVol.

I then filled in that field for a file, and renamed using [ARTIST] - [NAME] - [CDVOL] and it worked.

I then created a new field called SAM, with a display name called BOB. I tested renaming using both, and it only worked if I used BOB (the display name).

Which is interesting because File Properties shows the actual name and not the display name. That to me, is a bug in itself. The display name should be used everywhere that's visible to the user. The actual name should only be used internally by MC.

Again, the window called "Configure Library Field" contains a new field I called CDVOL

Category:  Extended
Keywords: cdvol=
Default field: Yes
User data: List
Edit Type: Standard
Values:     CD1;CD2;CD3;CD4
Store in tags: Yes

When renaming I chose "renaming files using file properties"

I check Filename and write:
[CDVOL] [TRACK #] - [ARTIST] - [NAME]

=> the result is e.g.:
[CDVOL] 01 - Jethro Tull - First post.mp3

You are right, it only works with the display name. This I renamed to CD Volume.

So now I could use it for mass changes if MC would ignore the field in case it's empty (the name changes to Unknown CDVOL)

What are the Name and Display of that field?

I just set it up exactly the way you described and it's working fine here.

I agree that MC should just ignore empty fields when renaming, but in the meantime, how about just setting them all to CD1? Technically speaking, they all are CD1, right?

It's not the best solution, but it may be more acceptable than Unknown CDVOL.

That's not what I want - is it worth waiting? Is there a chance they are reacting on such issues? What's your experience?

Writing nothing instead of "unknown..." is just one alternative. I think it would be much better if there would be keywords to allow IF-statements so I could choose what to write in case it's empty. This option would also be nice for calculated fields , e.g.

Field CDVOL: If [filename] contains "*CD1;CD1;""] (like in Excel) or

Field MAINGENRE: If [genre] = ("SOFT ROCK" or "ALTERNATIVE" OR "METAL"); "ROCK", ...

Well, if you wanted to do that... or actually, this would probably work to just have nothing...

Let MC rename all of your files using the CDVOL tag.

Then use the Find & Replace funtion, clear out everything but leave Filename checked, and do a search for "Unknown CDVOL" or whatever it is, and have it replace it with either nothing, or the text you want instead.

It's one extra step, but it'll get you the results you're after.

I remember reporting this difference between display and internal name long time ago! Probably they made some preparation for multilingual support, where a distinction between internal and display name would make sense. But it was never really fixed!
