I have googled some, and there seems to be a lot of trouble with CD/DVD drives on win10. So i am looking for advice, in MC, the CD-drive just shows "no files found on disc" when i insert an audio CD, the drive letter is shown in windows, but EAC can see the files, MC can not. Any tips on how to fix this? (The drives are IDE).

There is a Windows Defender thread here. Worth a look. It has been causing problems recently and it probably can't be disabled completely. You may need to set it correctly.

I have disabled it in the group policy editor. I wouldn't put it past MS to still do some stupid thing, but it should be more disabled than putting something in the exception list at the very least.

I got a bit tired of the win10-troubles, there seems to be thousands of people having optical drive problems with win10 in the general sense. I tried installing win7, seems to work fine there (even with win defender, which is enabled on a fresh install i think), (I have to install som gigs of updates to be sure, but so far it seems to work).

I had a problem with a couple of "enhanced audio" CDs, on which Windows10 saw no files. MC got the files from one CD but couldn't handle the other. I tried dBpoweramp, which worked just fine. I have to guess that Windows10 isn't set up for some file formats.

I checked with a few regular CDs, and they seem to don't work either, however dbpoeramp doesn't see the CD-drives either (but EAC and windows does), do they use a different way to access the drive maybe?

It might be possible that EAC has control of the drive. But the most likely reason is security software.

Yeahm i tried restarting without EAC ever running to check that, but doesn't seem to be making any difference.

I find security software to be a very unlikely culprit, as mentioned, i have disabled windows defender entirely via group policy, and have no other software of the type installed.

have you tried running as admin....not just logging into your machine as a admin but running the software specifically as admin...just a thought

I would not assume that it isn't the problem. I would set up Windows Defender as Awesome Donkey outlined.

I restarted the service, (since i cannot change the settings when it is disabled), put in all the exceptions as mentioned in the thread, and then turned off windows defender again. Still the same problem. (As mentioned it does work fine on win7 one the same machine, so i suspect it has something to do with how win10 handles cd/dvd-drives)

I'm doubtful that Windows Defender is figuring into this problem. It sounds more like some kind of copy protection.

It'd be nice to know whether Windows can at least detect that the CD appears to be readable under the CD File System (CDFS). In a non-elevated command window, run Disk Manager: C:\Windows\System32\diskmgmt.msc . Scroll until you find the CD/DVD drive in question. Is it described as "CDFS"? Is there a volume label (right now I'm looking at an enhanced audio CD that MC couldn't deal with, and the volume label is LORDOFTHERINGS)? If the CD is recognized under CDFS and has a readable volume label, I suspect that the data are available to Windows but that only somewhat specialized programs can make sense of the data.

If I recall correctly, there's different SCSI interface possibilities for optical disc drives in Windows. ASPI is one (older Windows, e.g. Windows 9x), ASAPI is another (VOB, if I recall correctly?) and native Win32 (which is used in XP and above) is one more that I'm aware of. EAC has different options for choosing an interface, whereas MC and dbpoweramp might use/require different interfaces. If I had to guess, it probably requires native Win32? This is one of the possibilities I'd consider and see if using a newer SATA-based optical drive worked any better, if possible.

But yeah, copy protection is another possibility as mentioned in this topic. What disc(s) are you trying to rip?

It says "CDFS" But only "audio cd", but I have tried with several audio CDs I know for a fact has no protection (besides, the drive i have seem to handle all kinds of relevant protection on regular audio cds)

It is supposed to be supported, but the support seems spotty, there is a LOT of forum posts about optical drives not working in win 10. I tried connecting through the motherboard, but know they are connected via a PCIe IDE-card.

And don't make fun of my drives

They are selling on ebay for 300 dollars (and are the best ripping drives in existence)

A very good thought is seems like, because it works! I don't know why, but running MC as admin makes the CD turn up also in win10. I have no clue as to why though.
