SAT>IP setup with kathrein EXIP 414/E server
« on: February 23, 2018, 10:41:44 am »

Hi,  Just received the Kathrein EXIP 414/E SAT>IP server but cannot get it to work in JRiver 23.  I have had it working in DVBViewer no problem and on my phone so its there and working.  In JRiver the four tuners appear in manage devices and I can select each one and the drop down gives me two options either disable or SAT>IP.  However, when I go to setup nothing is listed in SAT>IP devices and JRiver tells me I have no hardware.  Any ideas please.

Did you try Setup after you checked "Manage Devices" or before?

Sat>IP and other network devices must be discovered by MC.  It takes a few seconds to a couple of minutes.  So if you run Setup immediately after MC starts up, you may not get the devices.  Wait for a couple of minutes before you run Setup.

I tried setup 1st.  I just found it strange that the device's four tuners were listed when I went into Manage Devices.  I have left JRiver running and still nothing.

When you checked Manage Devices, the tuners had been discovered already.  If you then try Setup again, you should have them.  If not, something is wrong.

Yes I agree should I try re-installing JRiver.  I have the same result from two different machines running JRiver.  Like I said before one of the machines has DVBViewer on and that finds the tuners no problem and plays the stream and also the Tivizen SAT>IP app on my phone finds it and plays no problem.

If I switch off the SAT IP server the tuners disappear from manage devices and return if I switch back on. But still nothing under setup.

Logs sent.

Was this the message you got?

"You have not selected a tuner device that has a server supplied channel list M3U file."
"Please make sure you select a tuner that has such a list."

No.  I have no tuners listed  in the list to setup I can only see then in manage devices.

I get the message when I select SAT>IP :

You have selected a tuner of type SAT>IP and your device list seems to be empty and then tells me to open firewall DLNA etc all of which are done and then run the wizard again.

I notice that you selected "dvbs" from the modulation system drop-down list.  Do you see the option "Get channels from server provided list" from the drop-down list?  If you see it, please select it.   It is the only option that works at this time.

I do not get that option.  If I select SAT>IP I only have three options under Modulation System DVB_S, T and C.  I also notice under TV status the 4 tuners are listed.  I just cannot get to them in Setup.

Now that is clear.

The option is needed at this stage as I have not implemented getting channels from a tuner.  Sorry about that.

Check your Sat>IP server and see if it has the option to output a channel list m3u file.  It is an optional feature in Sat>IP specification.  So some servers may not support it.

Hi,  Does it have to output this as a stream somehow or you just need the M3U file to upload into JRiver?

It needs to be output as a stream (its URL is advertised in the server's description).  I have planned to add an option to allow users to specify a file, but that is not implemented either.

Well here is the answer from Kathrein tech support:

our EXIP 414/E has not the option to output a channel list m3u file as a stream.

So where does this leave me it seems odd that JRiver recognises the device and the tuners as TV devices.  Any idea how DVBViewer and Tivizen does this with no problem.

We are constantly improving.  Hopefully we will support other modes of channel scanning in the future (probably in version 24).

I think I may have managed it but will let you know once I have tested.  Its using a piece of software from DVBViewer.
