Headless MC renderer/client

I have been playing with the Pi and other SBC's as MC renderers/clients.  I see them being used in two distinctly different ways - as a headless device for playing music and as a "set top box" connected to a monitor or TV.  Currently, MC does not really support a headless mode.  There are work arounds but...  Is official support for headless operation coming anytime soon?

The Id runs headless without problems. 

I don't think we'll try to make a Windows version do that anytime soon.

I was thinking along the lines of the Linux version... so that I could make my own Id like device.
