Hi there fellow River users, I can not swim and I am drowning..sorry joke...but I do have an issue..
The first time I noticed this issue is when I tried to play a prince album ..I even tried to import the CD again from scratch and still it would not play...
Well a week ago I was listening to Dr who playlist it has series 1 to 4 including specials....all these were imported from CD and on an external drive...every one of them play fine but when it gets to series 3 it skips the entire album...but then if i try to add those tracks direct from the source drive to a new play list if I try to play any of those tracks that way it still will not work and it says "playback failed the selected file can not be played"...this is really frustrating as there is no reason that I Can see for the tracks not to play...they are in the same folder as the other albums, they are in the same format (WAV) and all came from CD's so it is really frustrating for it ot to play that specific album...
I have tested the tracks and they play fine with windows media player and any other media player I try except JRiver....this is really sad to me though as I never really had any issues with JRiver...I got rid of Itunes as it gave me nothing but problems and was just a nuisance software to me..but why it is so sad is because I thought I finally found the best and most reliable media player but now I am realizing it is not so reliable unfortunately unless I can find a reason why the software decides not to play certain albums....any help would be appreciated thanks.

I think I have sussed what is going on...as always when there is a problem it is down to Itunes and Apple (I hate them). Well it seems I can import a CD at 48000 HZ when I use Itunes to import a CD, which is the highest quality available when importing CD's using Itunes. But here is the thing the rate on a real CD is usually 41000 HZ not 48000 HZ...so although itunes has the option to import at a higher sample rate, it is higher than what the music is on the CD. in other words it is not genuine the music can not be any higher than 41000 HZ on an audio CD...so I think what is happening with JRiver is when I have used this 48000 HZ for importing my CD's using Itunes then I try to play the files on JRiver, JRiver is not recognizing them as playable files. If this is the reason it kind of makes sense but what is confusing is I put all my CD's in this 48000 HZ onto the PC and only a couple...so far have been unable to play via JRiver...I just imported Doctor who series 3 audio CD using JRiver and it plays fine...the old files I imported via Itunes do not play on JRiver at all..it is good but i have so many CD's to look through so hoping I do not have any issues playing any more of my CD's.

48 kHz from iTunes CD rips? Yeah, definitely not good as CDs are only 44.1 kHz (aka redbook). Are the tracks not playing m4p or something like that? If so, they've got DRM copy protection.

You might try ripping them in another format, e.g. Apple Lossless (ALAC) if you're on a Mac/using an iDevice or ripping the CDs with JRiver Media Center itself and make sure they're not ripping at 48 kHz which is just a waste of hard drive space for that higher sample rate.

I figured it out thanks...well my Itunes purchases I had purchased a lot of Itunes music over the years but I have not purchased in some time so a lot of my Itunes purchases had DRM but if you use Itunes match it gives you the files in slightly higher sample rate and without the DRM..but the trouble is it wasn't easy as a lot of the tracks would keep saying "failed" every time I tried to get them...I had to just re buy those ones on CD...but yes the 41000 for the CD's is probably the issue with some of the music I taken from my CD's but what is weird is almost all of  the CD's I put to Itunes library I ripped in that 48000 format and they all play fine except the odd 1 or 2 albums...so far...but my doc who series 3 I looked out the disc and ripped it to JRiver in the 410000 rate and it plays fine so it seems to be something to do with ripping them to 48000 right enough...Itunes is the craziest software ever...I hate it..

If your system cannot play back 48kHz files directly, you have Media Center output them at 44.1kHz via Output Format in DSP Studio.
I would suggest re-ripping whatever CDs you can though, as that initial rip doesn't match what is on the disc, while Media Center should be able to rip a 1:1 copy of the data on the disc to a lossless format such as FLAC, ALAC, APE etc.
