Is this a Linux issue?

I leave my Nuc Id on 24/7 so, lately, pretty much every time I turn my receiver on (hdmi from Nuc) it doesn't see anything connected to the "media player" input (which is where the hdmi from the Nuc is).  So I go to manually turn the Nuc off so I can reboot - then all of sudden it sees the input and I see the Linux screen just before it shuts down.
This got me to thinking - is there some sort of sleep mode happening on my Nuc that is keeping my receiver from seeing it when I turn the receiver on?
