After downloading and installing 23 on my Win 7 x64 box, I purchased 24 license and activated MC. When I try to use the Reg code on a Debian install, it fails saying it’s for a different product. Duh.

You need to be using MC 23.0.102 for Linux from the latest repo for it to accept a MC24 license.

I followed the process of setting up MC in the Debian instructions and thought it would autoupdate. Did I misunderstand that? Is there a way for me to cause it to update?

Thanks,
Jeff

You're probably using the stable repo, which as far as I know doesn't provide a build of MC23 that accepts a MC24 license. Try switching to the latest repo.

Do i need to “cancel” the command I originally entered for the stable repo?

Just input...

Code: [Select]
sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mediacenter23.list
This removes the latest repo .list file, next...

Code: [Select]
sudo wget http://dist.jriver.com/latest/mediacenter/mediacenter23.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mediacenter23.list
This adds the .list for the latest repo. Finally...

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
Then check for updates via the method you use (e.g. Synaptic in Debian).

I got daring (for a Windows guy) and edited the mediacenter23.list file from "stable" to "latest", inputted apt-get update and then apt-get upgrade mediacenter23. I think I updated everything on the installation including Stretch ... a LOT of text streamed by, a LOT. Mediacenter23 was one as were things like LibreOffice, etc.

Everything is fine now and I can clone my Debian installation to my client NUCs.
