JRiver 23 and Oppo HA-1 downgraded resolution [Solved]
« on: March 14, 2018, 10:32:05 pm »

In JRiver, the three vertical lines with dots on them of some kind are no longer blue when playing SACD .iso files. When I click on those, the dialog says:

Input: 352.8 kHz 64bit 2ch from source format SACD

Changes: Resample from 352.8 kHz to 176.4 kHz.

Output: 176.5 kHz 24 bit 2ch using Direct Sound (not a direct connection)

I didn't ask it to do that, and it hadn't been doing that, and the specs for the HA-1 show that it should be able to easily handle the raw rate (and much higher).

What am I doing wrong?

If I turn on bitstreaming, still no direct, but the dialog changes to:

Changes: No changes are being made

Output: 352.8 kHz 32bit 2ch using WASAPI (not using enough bits to output the input directly)

DSD playing back as 352.8kHz or lower means that it's being converted to PCM.
Are you sure that bitstreaming is correctly enabled in the audio settings? (not the DSD options in DSP Studio)
Check that you have the correct format selected, if your device requires DoP rather than native DSD or vice-versa.

Speakers: OPPO HA-1 USB AUDIO 2.0 DAC

Playback options:

Audio device: OPPO HA-1 USB AUDIO 2.0 DAC [WASAPI]
Device: open device for exclusive access
Bitdepth: Automatic.

Setings:
Bitstreaming: Yes (DSD) -> fails with error
Bitstreaming: None -> works but no blue

DSP Studio:

Nothing checked.
Sample rate set to no change for all inputs.
Channels set to source number of channels.

Have you installed the driver for your device?
Windows has USB Audio 2.0 support now, but perhaps it doesn't work with DSD with your device.

The driver is installed. The whole thing works fine, except it's downgrading SACD.

Oppo says the following, but I don't want to install some other software. I just want to get this working!

Jim,

We would recommend trying an alternative playback software, such as Foobar (refer to the following for configuring DSD: https://www.audiostream.com/content/how-play-dsd-file-using-foobar2000), and see if you have the same issue with getting DSD64 to the HA-1 at 1-bit/2.82MHz.

Messed around with it shutting things off and finally success:

DSP Studio: everything unchecked

Playback Options: Bitstreaming: Yes (DSD)

Input: DoP 2.8 MHz 1bit 2ch from source format SACD

Output: DoP 2.8 MHz 1bit 2ch using WASAPI (bitstreaming)
