Library organization help (Cover View)
« on: April 05, 2018, 01:08:58 pm »

I like to open up Media Center in cover view, but I was wondering if there's a way to condense multi-disc albums down to a single cover art, while maintaining correct track info. For example, I would like to click on just one pic of the 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness' cover art (double disc CD) and scroll down through both discs (tracks 1-14 on [Disc 1] then track 1-14 on [Disc 2]. I don't want to have to rename ALL tracks 1-28 just to be able to keep everything in one single pane when I'm choosing a track. Any ideas?  ?

Are you using the Disc # and Total Discs fields? Those work for me with multi-disc albums, including Mellon Collie.

Also do you mean the 3D albums view? If so, here's how Mellon Collie looks for me with the Disc # and Total Disc fields being used in 3D cover view (also don't mind the multiple Mellon Collies, I have multiple versions/editions of the album): https://i.imgur.com/91U22xy.png

EDIT: Or do you mean this cover view for Albums/Artists? If so, Disc # and Total Discs tags work wonders for multi-disc albums there too! Here's how that looks for me (also using a couple expression columns to replace the standard Track # and Disc # columns to display Total Tracks and Total Discs): https://i.imgur.com/ev31dsm.png

P.S. Do note that even though I do also use the correct Track # and Total Tracks fields too, the 3D albums view seems to consolidate them as 28 tracks, instead of listing 14 for disc 1 and 14 for disc 2.

Thanks for your help. I'm just using Cover View to display all the album covers, not 3D Albums View. Here's what it currently looks like (see pic). I turned on [Disc #] and [Total Discs] fields, but it didn't condense it down to one pic of the album art. I'm just trying to de-clutter Cover View.

Try removing the [Disk ..] from the name of the album and fill in the Disc # tag.

Only way to do it is to consolidate both discs' album titles to Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness after setting the Disc # and Total Discs tags correctly. In your screenshot above the Disc # and Total Discs tags are empty, so you need edit and add those to both discs. My second screenshot in the edit above reflects that cover view you're using with both discs consolidated and the tags set correctly. Do note you'll have to remove Dusk To Dawn and Twilight To Starlight from the album tag too but you can create a new tag, e.g. Disc Name and add those there. That's the only way you'll be able to consolidate multi-disc albums like that, and was an issue I myself encountered in my early days before I consolidated everything.

Here's the consolidated album screenshot again of the same type of cover view you're using: https://i.imgur.com/ev31dsm.png

Perfect! I tried what Jim suggested and it works like a charm! Also, thanks Donkey for providing info on the correct order of doing things (and yeah I had to edit out the ending of the disc titles because of the difference). :) Ok, now it's time to tag the rest of them. Thanks, again!

EDIT: By the way, Awesome Donkey...5 different versions of Mellon Collie and Meddle? Very Nice!

Trust me, it'll pay off in the end once everything is consolidated and everything looks like how it should. :)

Though, I admit the "flaw" in my personal library/setup is the lack of disc name, even though I do know what they're called (I mean come on, it's Mellon Collie, my second favorite album of all-time!). I did come up with the Disc Name tag workaround in my own testing and it does work, but I never liked having a blank tag column for the majority of the albums in my library except for the few albums that do have disc names, e.g. Mellon Collie so I never used it outside of testing.

By the way, Awesome Donkey...5 different versions of Mellon Collie and Meddle? Very Nice!

7 versions of Mellon Collie and 7 versions of Meddle, actually. That's nothing though, I've got 9 versions of Siamese Dream and 17 versions of Dark Side Of The Moon. I'm a hoarder/collector, I admit it! :P
