Possible to import playlists from Foobar (fpl format)?
« on: April 11, 2018, 02:30:38 pm »

I'm making the transition from Foobar to JRiver.  Over the years, I had created some playlists in Foobar and would like to import them to JRiver.  My library consists of mainly FLAC and SACD ISO.  Foobar saves the playlists as a .fpl file format.  I can't find a way to import this into JRiver.  Is there a utility that can convert the .fpl file to something that JRiver will accept?

I have also tried exporting the playlists in Foobar as .m3u and .m3u8 type files.  JRiver can import these files.  However, it seems SACD ISO tracks cannot be imported with this format.  The entire album is imported instead of individual tracks.

Any suggestions?  I have thousands of albums and I've created about two dozen playlists over the years.  Some containing over 1,000 tracks each.  Thanks for any help!

Next build of MC24 will have basic support for FPL files.

Thanks for the nudge :)

Hi Matt, just wondering if there is an approximate timeline for this request.

Thank you!

It's been added.

Here's the history entry:

24.0.14 (4/12/2018)

1. NEW: Added support for Foobar playlist files (FPL).

How do I actually use this?  ?

When I go to "File"-->"Import Playlist" fpl files don't show up.

I can have it show all file types and then select my fpl file, but then nothing happens.  I was expecting a new playlist to appear under Playlists.

I appreciate your guidance!

When I go to "File"-->"Import Playlist" fpl files don't show up.

Next build will fix that.  The files already show on the import dialog or if you just drag-n-drop.

I tried "drag & drop" from Foobar to JRiver playlist.  The problem is with the SACD ISO tracks.  For example, my playlist may include two tracks from an album (SACD ISO).  When importing, it brings all the tracks from that album, not just the two.  This is the same problem as converting the fpl file to m3u as all the tracks within an SACD ISO show up in the playlist.

Or maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Matt, is the issue with importing playlists that contain tracks from SACD ISO files something that will be fixed in later releases?  Please let me know.  If it can't be fixed, then I need to start manually recreating my playlists.  But if it can be resolved in future releases, I can wait.  Thanks.
