Also, I really don't want JRiver handling photos and videos, yet despite opting for the Custom install, I could find no options to exclude these, so it went right ahead and grabbed all those as well (having deleted it all on my previous installation).

Sorry to hear that.
You can clear the library under File->Library->Clear
Then under Tools->Options->Libraries and Folders
Uncheck the first two auto import options (I forgot about the one that starts importing everything on an empty library, if the auto-import starts the countdown before you get those unchecked, just cancel  the import).
Then you can just import the single Music folder or set auto-import configuration to that and trigger it when you want.

Thanks Bob, appreciate your advice.

Do you think I'll ever get this to work via my PS Audio Bridge II or will the fact that I have Roon installed on the same network put the kybosh on JRiver (as a friend of mine implied)? I wouldn't want to have to log in to my other laptop and disable Roon every time I want to play something via JRiver on this one, btw.

Thanks again.

It seems to me they should coexist.
As long as nothing else is actively controlling the PS audio bridge it should work.
You will want to tune your DLNA server to it's capabilities. There are plenty of us here that should be able to help with that...

Thanks - any tips welcome!  :)

I'm seeing the Bridge listed on the left of the JRiver interface and it seems to start playing tracks using it, but no sound comes through and after 5 seconds it just stops and the clock disappears. Just like other people described earlier in this thread, except I can't seem to get past it however many times I've tried and fiddled around with settings.

Here's a couple more screenshots - one of  Network settings in JRiver. I still can't work out what that Access Key is for? And SSL? I'm afraid the explanations may as well be written in Greek - I don't have any idea what to do with them. Either way, I selected the 24 bit playback option (which even says PS Audio in brackets).

The other screenshot is of the network settings on my laptop, allowing the Bridge to have access. Not sure what else I have to do to make it all happen.
