I found it mentioned in a forum thread - yesterday - and clicked on the link provided.  (Yesterday being about 23 hours ago - I'm in Australia and it's morning here now.)

Ok, I assumed you were using a Mac since we are in a Mac thread.
The Mac build was just released a couple of hours ago.

It doesn't matter in your case.

I would delete the audiophile DAC DLNA server and create a new one using the generic template.
That will change the Audio format to "Specified output format only when necessary"
The default will then convert everything that's not MP3 to MP3.
When that's working you can then tune it in that DLNA server config under Audio->Advanced and select only the formats that need conversion. The rest will be passed through as-is to the BridgeII

My bad - I googled the symptoms and it led me straight here. Didn't think to check beyond that.

You lost me there, I'm afraid. 90% of my files are higher res than mp3 and I wouldn't want to downgrade.

I ran your replies past my local 'expert' who still maintains that I won't be able to use both JRiver and Roon without some fairly irksome resetting of options each time I switch.

I ended up buying a 10 ft 'audio grade' USB cable which I'll run from my laptop into the DAC for periodic listening sessions. For the files I deem worthy, I'll edit the various fields to make them consistent with accepted file naming protocol and then move them over to the Roon library to play via the Bridge. Arduous, but hey...

Thanks for your help in any case.

Sorry about the tech jargon.
The options I gave you were to control what does and doesn't get converted. I just suggested trying mp3 first because everything has to support it.
I also really don't see why the Roon should prevent you from sending DLNA audio to the Dac.
