Rearrange library views in tree
« on: April 28, 2018, 01:57:59 am »

Hi there,

is it possible to rearrange the views I set up? It seems that I can only drag and drop them into one another but not on top or below of each other.

Thanks.

I could be totally wrong here, but I do believe they are listed in alphabetical order, and there's no changing that.

But.... as a work-around you could rename them into the order you want, like

01 Recent Albums
02 Files
03 Artist

and so on.... you get the idea.

Thanks!
You're right. It is sorting alphabetically. Adding leading numbers is a workaround but in my view it should be possible to sort the views according to ones gusto without this workaround.

Yep, I agree with you.  But, as we all know, it's not a perfect world......

This is not quite right. There is a way to arrange them, via the icons and the Auto, Top, Bottom settings.

I’ve posted about it before somewhere, though I can’t really search for it right now...

Thanks Glynor. Found the options on right clicking on the icon in the tree->Customize view->Settings->Tree->Position.

Still a bit cumbersome. Maybe a fourth option could be added to the "Position" parameter (e.g."Custom") which would allow to drag and drop?

Also, the Icons used (called Image in the Customize View dialog) impact sort order in the Tree. Each icon will sort alphabetically in its own group (and the icons themselves have a pre-defined sort order). This, combined with the Auto, Top, and Bottom sections, allows you to get lots of different orders.

I agree that some way to custom sort them via drag-drop would be cool. I’m not sure why that’s never been offered. I think it might be challenging from a UI perspective a bit (you’d probably need to have some kind of “jiggle mode” to avoid accidental sorting during use), but the limitation may also be technical due to the data type of the Views underneath, or perhaps performance. Dunno.

Either way, play around with the icons. Having different icons makes the different Views easier to visually identify anyway.
