how to stream aac files to Oppo BDP-103
« on: May 22, 2018, 08:16:13 pm »

I am fairly new to JRiver.  I have a mac running MC24, connected wirelessly to an Oppo BDP-103 player.  The BDP-103 outputs left and right analog audio to my preamp.  For the most part, this works well.  I can play music that is stored on my mac.  I can also stream playlists that are from mp3 network streams.

The problem child is when I try to use an aac stream thru the BDP-103.  When I play the aac stream directly on my mac, it works fine.  When I send it to the BDP-103, nothing comes out.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me to try?  I'd really like to get this to work, because I'd like to take advantage of the (usually) higher bitrates from the aac streams.

Thank you in advance...be well

Hi Ron.

A couple of things to try.

The BDP-103 doesn't support gapless playback, so I would try disabling that first. Right Click on the renderer /zone -> DLNA Controller options -> check "Disable SetNext Support.

Also it could be that it may not be able to stream AAC, or at least at the rate you are attempting.  So are you able to either configure the Oppo to passthrough and let the amp handle the decoding, or also try and use DSP to change the output to a lower sample rate?

Cheers

I am running MC 24, the mac version.  I don't know what happened, but...

For some reason, when I access Tools>Advanced Tools>Media Server, it no longer shows anything.  Has anyone seen this, and if so, what did you to to correct it?

If my memory serves me correctly, I had the settings for convert everything to PCM 24 bit.

As soon as I can get that dialog back, I will try your settings.

Thank you, in advance...

OK, I was able to make the settings changes to be always convert to PCM16 no header.  The results were the same:  mp3 stream works the same, aac has no output whatsoever.

Anyone have any suggestions for what to try next to half-split this problem - that is,
      - is MC decoding the stream into PCM correctly
      - is MC decoding the stream correctly, but the Oppo is throwing it on the floor
      - is MC decoding the stream incorrectly?

      Thanks...

Yes I think that's what this is saying.

Here's another question or two...

I have the two streaming url's for the same station (one mp3 and the other aac).  In the preferences section, I tell MC to convert whatever I want to play into 16 bit PCM, with no header (per a previous suggestion here on the forum).  MC lists many file formats, with aac being one of them.

If the mp3 stream plays, and the aac stream doesn't, doesn't that point to MC as possibly not producing a correct PCM stream for aac?  Or, is it possible that MC is not converting it at all, and passing the stream straight thru?
