Folder location path cannot be typed in
« on: June 10, 2018, 09:31:17 am »

I am trying to enter a file location for Cover Art in Tools>Options>File Locations. However, all the folder locations here only allow the user to browse to the location and not enter it in the select folder box at the top of the window. This causes me problems because when I click on "Network" at the bottom, it does not show me any locations. I can find and select the network locations using Windows File Explorer easily, but there doesnt seem to be a way of pasting the path into JRiver MC24 so I cannot point it to the location I want to use.

Is there any way around this?

Thanks

Working correctly for me too. Showing the network locations properly and typing in the folder location box works fine. Does MC 24 have network permissions?

I face this same issue.  Both you and me are unable to enter network UNC paths in the folder entry, so you are not the only one.  It looks like directly modifying the registry may be a work-around for this issue:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Center 24\Properties\File Location - Image File Location

If you are not comfortable modifying the registry, don't do it.

I'm pretty sure that all those types of dialogues in MC require you to browse to the location that is being set, and don't allow you to simply type in the location. You can browse to a location and add a sub-folder though, which sometimes helps.

Regarding the issue of not seeing any locations under the "Network" item, have a read of this post: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,114852.0.html

Microsft broke the Network Browsing functionality recently. But you can fix it. Note that some patience is required when waiting for Windows to populate the Network item. Maybe even multiple clicks. But it works.

Thanks Jamil for your registry suggestion, that sounds like a work around.

The requirement to enter a UNC path (or at least some of it) is that the media is stored in a Distributed File System (DFS) Share and the first part of the namespace (the domain element) cannot be browsed to (i.e. \\domain), once there, the individual namespaces can be browsed. I use DFS to provide redundancy (if multiple targets are used) and can change the physical location of a share from one machine or folder to another, without the DFS namespace changing, so no reconfiguration of JRiver is required.

But I can browse to a namespace. i.e. \\HTPC, which can then be browsed to select \\HTPC\Music\.

Because I have Network Discovery working in the current version of Windows 10. See the thread I linked to above.

Of course, I am not using Domain names or DFS. Just Shares on another PC, because it is a private LAN and not a business network. That may make a difference. But you should be able to make the Domain visible to browse.

Thanks RoderickGI

Yes I can browse to other computers too (also have network discovery on) but a DFS namespace isnt a computer, in fact a single namespace can point to several computers for load balancing and redundancy. So you need to get to the root before you can then browse. The only ways to get to the root are to use a shortcut or to enter the UNC path \\domain-name.

So it would be useful if we could enter a UNC path into the file locations.

Also to be clear, I can enter text into the file location field but MC will not save it or go there if I do.
