7th generation ipod problem

When I start Media Center 21I get an error message saying Ipod could not be identified, check for an updated version of media center---Ipod type etc.

I have read many postings on this site but do not seem to find an answer.   I am NOT looking to synch.   I want to just manually add/remove music from the 7th Gen ipod.  Not sure what to do.  I do see the ipod listed with a drive letter, but that is all.  I cannot view or play any of its content

Only early iPods will work with MC.  Apple decided to encrypt their database to "protect" their users.
