We are running Windows 7, Home Premium, SP1, x86. We recently had to do a reinstall of Win7, but when I went to install J River, I got the message "Media Center was installed for a different operating system. Please reinstall Media Center." At first I thought maybe I had downloaded the version for 64 bit, but I double checked, and it's the correct download for my system. I have no idea what else to do. We just bought this back in April, but now we can't use it. My husband has went so far as to put some more crappy freebie players on our computer so he can listen to music! Please help.

Greetings and welcome! First things first, did you do what it said, and try reinstalling Media Center? Did it help or did the error persist?

Usually that error occurs when upgrading one version of Windows (e.g. Windows 7 or 8.1) to another (e.g. Windows 10). I suspect a non-destructive Windows reinstall was done here - was your programs and files from the previous Windows install retained? If so, that'd explain the error here. Usually reinstalling fixes it, but if it doesn't you might have to uninstall Media Center and reinstall it.

Yes, we downloaded it and reinstalled it again, but with the same error message. I originally downloaded from here: http://files.jriver.com/mediacenter/channels/v24/stable/MediaCenter240040.exe

Yes, we had to reinstall all of our programs, but this is the only one we can't fix, but it is also the only one that is specific to a particular OS.

EDIT:

I am apparently using up a limited number of times to get this done. I just got an email that stated I can only try 7 more times. After that, my $50 is for nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

Firstly - you should have an email from jriver with your registration code and an attachment with MediaCenter24windows******.mjr
You canuse this .mjr file to activate your install of jriver for up to 14 days - so don't keep restoring and generating a new install key ( the .mjr file attachment)

Secondly - go to C: > Program Files > JRiver > Mediacenter 24. Look for the MediaCenter 24.exe file and right mouse click it and make sure that you aren't running in compatability mode.

This particular error would only happen if the installer and MC itself disagree about the version of your OS. This can happen if you run one of them in compatibility mode for some reason, so ensure that is disabled for both the MC installer and MC itself.
