Multiple Aspect Ratio's in one movie and 21:9 screens
Deders:
I was wondering if it would be possible to add a feature whereby JRiver MC automatically detects the aspect ratio of the current frame and adjusts accordingly.
I'm using a 21:9 monitor, and movies like the Dark knight have scenes with more than one aspect ratio, and it is a pain to have to switch back and forth between them.
If I leave it as normal, the 16:9 scenes display correctly, but the ultrawide scenes are in a small box surrounded by black bars.
Also would it be possibly to introduce a way of playing one film without interupting the current playlist. I have randomized thousands of TV shows, and starting again because I want to watch a film means I end up rewatching a lot of shows.

Don't know about the aspect ratios but your second query can be sorted by creating a new Zone based on the player, call it player2 or Film. You can then watch your tv series in the player, and stop them switch to player2 watch your film and then when you swap back to player your playlist should be left in the state you left it. Works with audio files - don't know for tv programs.
Deders:
That's a great idea, will give that a try.
RD James:
This feature is built into madVR as part of the "zoom control" options.
I'm not sure that it's enabled on the default ROHQ profile however.
You have to enable the "automatically detect black bars", "notify media player about cropped black bars immediately", and "crop black bars" options.
Deders:
This sounds promising. I've set MadVR as in the picture.
But how do you get media players to respond to this? I've tried in JRiver MC and Media Player Classic but their settings don't hint at supporting this.
It seems to only give me one or the other, cropped at 21:9 or 16:9
