When I convert big mp2 files to wave I get only a part of the whole file.
I, for example, converted a more than seven hours long mp2 audio file (a Wagner opera) and got a 90 min.
wave file.
All audio editors I tried (WaveLab, Audacity, Fission) opened a shortened version only.
Strangely MediaCenter in the Tag editor shows a length of 1 hour and 29 minutes
while the overview at the top of the program shows a length of 7 hours and 42 minutes
and the whole file can be played up to the end.
Any idea?

You should try flac or ape or alac instead of wav format.  Wav files have a 4 byte size field in the header that limits them to 4 GB size (or 2 GB in some programs).  If someone else knows of a work-around for this, please chime in.  The whole 7 hour 42 minute file is probably produced OK, but when it writes the file size to the header, it will be wrong and goof up the duration display in most programs.  If the wav file is standard 44,100 hz 16 bit stereo, 4 GB can accommodate up to about 6 hours, 46 minutes.

I understand. Meanwhile I tried to use the .aiff and .flac format and both worked and unlike .wave files could be opened by WaveLab, too.
