Hi,

I've started using MC9 today.  It's great.  No multilingual problem.  Thank you.

However, it has new problem regarding to read tag information from APL files.  If I upgrade old library information from MJ8, I lost only sound name information.  When I import new APL files, no tag information was read from APL files...

Is it possible to fix this problem?  I heard APE works fine in another thread, so I guess this is kinda minor problem.  I really like to rip entire CD into 1 file and use APL file to split them virtually.

I checked more apl files.

It looks like it works fine if APL files contain only alphabet.  However, if it contains 2-byte Japanese character, it doesn't work correctly.  Please fix this as soon as possible.  Thank you.

I have several APL files that I can send you guys to help fix this problem.  Those are just tag information and reference to original APE file, so I think there is no problem to send them.  Let me know if you need them.

BTW, mp3 files with Japanese character tag works fine.

Is MC9 using Unicode as an internal string data?

If so, the reason of problem is in APE plug-in, I guess.  All mp3 files with SHIFT-JIS encoded tag work fine.  However, all APL files with SHIFT-JIS encoded tag don't work correctly.  Some APL files that contains alphabetical Artist and Album information are imported partially, but all Japanese (SHIFT-JIS encoded) song names appear as strange characters...

I just made APL files using UTF-8 encoded cue file.   It didn't work either.  /sigh

Additional info.  If directory name or file name contains Japanese character, APL files' tag information (song, artist, and album name) are lost.  Otherwise, tag information are kept but no encoding conversion like SHIFT-JIS to Unicode.  So, all Japanese characters in APL file tag appears wrong in MC9 screen.

These problems are for APL files only.  MP3 files are working just fine.

I noticed 3rd problem.  So, I'm adding the info here.  Before describing it, I describe first 2 problems.

1. Japanese APL tag information (song/artist/album names) appear strange in MC9.  If I use new MakeAPL and create UTF-8 tagged APL files, there is no problem.
2. Any APL files inside a directory using Japanese character (encoded by SHIFT-JIS) lose tag information in MC9.  MC9 shows song/artist/album names as unassigned.  This will be fixed once APE plugin stop parsing file path or something, I hope.

3rd problem is the same problem as the 1st.  I noticed MC9 is converting SHIFT-JIS encoded tag information in old APL files into UTF-8 indeed.  However, MC9 shows UTF-8 converted string as SHIFT-JIS.  It was the reason why I saw strange string.  I guess MC9 internal string has a bit to say this string is Windows native string or UTF-8 string.  And I imagine APE plug-in read Windows native string and convert it into UTF-8, but forgot to set this bit.  I wish this help to make MC9 work well either new APL files or old APL fies.

And one more internationalization probelm is... (this is off topic from APL tag thread though)  MC9 doesn't convert cdplayer.ini information to UTF-8.

The beta of 9.1 (out today) will have updated APE code.

Please try it and let us know what problems still exist.

Wow.  New MC9.1 beta is awesome.  No issue to use Japanese tag information.  Both new and old APL file work correct now.  No problem at all if apl files were under Japanese named directry.  Thank you.

In addition, cdplayer.ini is now also converted into UTF-8 when MC9 reads it.

The last question is how to use truely internationalized mp3 files like tagged by iTunes using UTF-8.    I don't own it, so I don't care about it though.
