eGPU

Manfred:
There are currently some interesting eGPU's on the market.

e.g. Blackmagic eGPU https://www.apple.com/de/shop/product/HM8Y2Z/A/blackmagic-egpu?afid=p238%7CsatJg2GVH-dc_mtid_187079nc38483_pcrid_91282506382_&cid=aos-de-kwgo-pla-btb--slid-----product-HM8Y2Z/A-DE (Currently only supported for apple but their are other eGPU's supporting Windows.

The eGPU way would not be cheap, but one could combine a low powered NUC or a fanless HTPC optimized for audio (external LPS) with Thunderbold 3 interface to the eGPU.

Is this a supported scenario by JRiver?

Has anybody experience with this?

RD James:
As far as the PC is concerned it should just be seen as an internal GPU so it would likely work.
Thunderbolt has limited bandwidth, and overhead compared to a dedicated PCIe x16 slot which reduces performance, and eGPU setups are often large and expensive, so you might be better off with an mITX PC build in a case like the DAN A4 SFX. Or a system like the Corsair One PC.

The problem is that so few motherboards offer Thunderbolt 3/ USB 3.1 gen2 ports.
I like the idea of eGPUs because you can have a modular system and add the eGPU if/when you need it.

yes, that was the reasons I asked for it  :)

For me the interest is in the systems that I sell with integrated Intel graphics. The eGPU is perfect to add graphics to a system without increasing the internal EM noise.
