I was trying to burn a cd yesterday and MJ 8 froze.  I think because there was very little space on the harddrive for the temp file.  Anyway, MJ and XP froze so I had to do a hard restart.  Ever since then, MJ will detect the drive but not the media or blank disc in it.  So when I go to burn a disc the test packet doesn't go thru.  or MJ says that there is no disc even when put one in.

I tried setting the auto insert notification "take no action" or "prompt".  

I can't read anything thru in that cd rw drive from explorer either.  

I have tried removing the device from the hardware and letting windows pick it up on restart.

I have tried uninstalling and installing MJ 8 and 9 and could not read anything on the drive from either.

how do I repair what MJ uses relate to the cdrw drive?

Is Windows recognizing the drive as a CD-RW or a CD-ROM?  Maybe try reinstalling the drivers.

I am running XP and it recognizes the drive as a CD-rw.  could this be the ASPI layer that has been corrupted?  is there any software to fix or check the aspi layer for windows XP?

looking on the bright side, you might need a new drive.

Don't know anything about ASPI and WinXP. You can try using Adaptec's aspichk.exe to see if it will tell you if the layer is installed correctly. You can find it with a quick Google search. It's just a small standalone program. Also, make sure you read any installation instructions before (re)installing a new aspi layer in XP.
