Why no in built visualiser for MC 24 (Mac version)?
« on: July 23, 2018, 07:05:29 am »

Hi everyone.

I have just installed the trial versions of MC 24 on both my Windows 10 PC and my iMac. I notice that the windows version has free visualisation effects built into the software but the mac version as far as I can tell does not.

Can someone please confirm if the mac version of MC 24 has a built in visualiser and if so how do I access it?

I tried downloading Whitecap visualiser on my imac but could not install this as the software appeared to be for windows and not mac.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Visualiser VST plugins are usually platform-specific - Windows VST plugins only work on Windows, Mac VST plugins only work on Mac, etc. Check with the vendor whether or they they provide a version for Mac. Also it's likely the built-in visualisers found in MC for Windows don't have a Mac counterpart (or they're simply not compatible or haven't been ported yet), hence why they're not included. It's the same deal with plugins in general.

Again, you might have to check whether or not the vendor provides visualisers made specifically for Mac.

P.S. For WhiteCap it's likely you have to download the iTunes (Mac OS X) version, not the JRiver Media Center version (which is likely for Windows only).

Cheers m8. Thanks for the reply.

You have confirmed what I suspected.

As suggested, I will check the iTunes store for a mac compatible Whitecap.

Thanks again.

It's probably not in the iTunes Store. Look here: https://www.soundspectrum.com/whitecap/serve.html

It would be fantastic if MC had more visualizations.  I have a funny feeling that the internal feeling at JRiver is that their theater view slideshow that pulls images from the Internet for each song is "the most attractive thing".  I think they think that old school visualizations like MilkDrop aren't current or aren't desirable or something.

I know quite a few people that really like visualizations.  Myself included.

Perhaps there are technical challenges to getting visualizations to work reliably with good performance under MC.

Either way, it would be really neat to have some good ones.  Even neater if they were platform independent, so they worked on the Mac too.  I think for most people in this forum, if it doesn't work under the Mac, it's not relevant to them.

If memory serves, this was difficult to port to Mac because our code used the Microsoft specific Direct3D toolkit for doing the fancy visualizations.  Now that Hendrik has implemented OpenGL on all platforms, it might be a lot easier to get those visualizations working.  We'll have to put that on the list!

Hi. I bought version 24 after being a year using iTunes. I have the platinum version of Whitecap but I can not find the way to show the visualizer in JRiver. Some help?
