Laggy response

JRiver latest stable on Debian Stretch + Pioneer VSX921 over DLNA - gets very laggy. If you try to adjust volume - better don't since it does nothing, and then when you forget about it after 15 seconds of nothingness - it suddenly jumps to full throttle blowing your ears off! Same about anything else you try to do - there is a lag, nothing happens instantly. I feel quiet disappointed. Any fix to this?

Click on the speaker icon in the upper left corner and choose Internal volume.

With DLNA, volume control is on the device.
