Play ripped HD-DVD files in MC 24?
« on: August 25, 2018, 04:53:38 pm »

Greetings.  Is there a way to play ripped HD-DVD files from the MC 24 library?  Import doesn't seem to recognize that all the .evo files in a folder constitute a movie.   If I right click on an evo an select 'Play in media center'  in file explorer, the file plays.

This is a blast from the past!  I dusted off my Heroes S1D1 / LG H20 drive and using AnyDVD ripped it to my HDD.  I then went into the "...\HEROES_S1_D1\HVDVD_TS" folder, selected the three largest EVO Files (Pilot, 1Genesis, 2LookBack) --> Media Center --> Import.  Tagged them up and did the "Get Movie and TV Info" etc.

They play back just fine in MC.

EVO files should play fine with Media Center, but thats really the extend of support we'll have for HD-DVD.

Alternatively, set up a ripping workflow where the HD-DVD end up as mkv, eg something well supported.  I ripped my 100+ HD-DVD this way and all playing happily.

There are guides online on the MakeMKV website, if I recall correctly, which is the tool I used for the job some years ago.
