Unable to burn audio cd
« on: August 23, 2018, 01:07:52 pm »

Assistance, please.
I have been running MC 24 and just downloaded the latest build, however, I am unable to burn an audio cd. I have 10 .wav files in a playlist (MP3 or ogg on the HDD). When I get them into the Action Window, they are listed. All 10 will play om MC24, but will not burn to the cd.
After going through the burn set up process and sending the files to drive F (burner), when I hit BURN, the burner burns  the "lead in track" and the lead out track, but does not burn the audio tracks.

What am I doing wrong?

I have a3 year old HP tower with a quad core Athlon chip, 12 Gigs of RAM, and 2 TB's of HDD. My OS is Windows 10.

Is the a "simple" tutorial or can someone give me simple instructions as to how to set up and burn an audio cd, please?

Thanks,

I have 10 .wav files in a playlist (MP3 or ogg on the HDD).

I don't follow what you mean here, however I have just burned a CD of 20 flac files without any problem. Put them in a playlist; select all of the files then right click and select send to device>burner; select any options you need (I used volume levelling) and then click burn. If you add too many tracks for the CD it will ask you to remove some.

Thanks, but that is exactly what I've been doing. I tried it this time by selecting all 10 files (32 min worth) (8 are cda files and 2 are mp3's)and sending them to the burner clicking only the TEST mode. Again after clicking BURN DISC, the burn window gave me the messages :" writing lead in area" and then "writing lead out area" which took less than 10 seconds.
Suggestions? Do I need to convert the files to one format??

Thanks

I have only burned discs from flac files. I guess having .cda files  and mp3 files which do need converting might cause a problem - but I don't know for sure.

If you have a set of flac files you could try a burn with those to see if it works correctly. You have chosen Audio CD in the burn drop down list?

I find it easier to make a playlist of the files you want to burn then just drag the playlist....I'm with swiv3d as far as the .cda files.....would be interesting to know how you got the cda files tho....

As far as I know, .cda files are not audio files. They're like shortcuts to PCM audio on a CD.

Just burned a disc of mixed flac and mp3 files with no problem so I guess it is your .cda files causing the problem, as AwesomeDonkey said they are not technically audio files as such.
This is from wikipedia:-
.cda is a common filename extension denoting a small (44 byte) stub file generated by Microsoft Windows for each audio track on a standard "Red Book" CD-DA format audio CD as defined by the Table of Contents (ToC) (within the lead-in's subcode).[1] These files are shown in the directory for the CD being viewed in the format Track##.cda, where ## is the number of each individual track.

The .cda files do not contain the actual PCM sound wave data, but instead tell where on the disc each track starts and stops. If the file is "copied" from the CD to a computer, it cannot be used on its own because it is only a shortcut to part of the disc. However, some audio editing and CD creation programs will, from the user's perspective, load .cda files as though they are actual audio data files, and allow the user to listen to them. This should not be confused with the tracks actually containing the audio data on the CD.

Thanks to all y'all.
I was able to use a cd burning program (K3b) on my Linux distro to burn the cda files to a cd. Then ripped them to MC 24 as flac ones. Then was able to burn the cd with both flac and mp3 files. No more cda files for me. I do have a master license and MC24 on both my Windows and Linux partitions. But the Linux MC 23 is not advanced enough to burn cd's. I keep hoping!!

Again, Thanks!

Glad to hear you have solved the problem. I got confused when you mentioned .wav files then talked about them being .cda files, but the linux reference makes me feel that all is not lost and senile dementia has not got the better of me yet!
