Is There a Way to Force a Resync Between MC 24 and a NAS
« on: August 26, 2018, 04:52:56 pm »

All of my music is in one library on a NAS.  Somehow some information in MC is not the same as on the NAS.  As an example, there are albums on the NAS that do not show up in MC.  However, when I try to import those albums MC will only import the cover art and not the music files.  I also have situations were an album does not show up when listing all albums in MC, but if I use the MC search function the album can be found.  The background re-sync does not correct these problems as some have been around for weeks.

In older versions of MC there was an option to force a complete re-sync between MC and the NAS music files.  That option does not appear to be available with MC 24.  Is there any way to force a re-sync?

If there are no way to force a re-sync are there options other than creating a new library and transferring the music from the old library to the new library which should force a re-sync.

Thank you for your help.

Is your library actually on the NAS or on the main computer?

The library is on the NAS.  My computer hard drive is too small for the library.

Additional Info:  This morning I added three CDs to the NAS and imported them into the Library.  After importing them into the library I looked at the album list and the three CDs were listed.  The three CDs have been erased from the NAS and the library.

Oh, this one is going to open a can of worms.

Library doesn't mean media files.
MC doesn't sync to a NAS when using just one copy of MC and importing media files from a NAS. You aren't running MC installed on the NAS as a MC Server are you, with the PC running as a MC Client?
If you aren't running a single copy of MC on your PC, connected to a NAS that contains all your media files, please describe how you are using MC, and how it is configured.
The real MC library, which is just a group of files stored in the location shown when you click on the library name under Playing Now, should always be on a fast local hard disk, not the NAS.
The library is actually quite small. For example, I have one ~40,000 file library which is a mixture of Audio and Video, for which the Library is about 30MB, while Thumbnails for the Library are about 350MB. Surely that would fit on your computer drive?
The Wiki is full of great information. Try reading through Getting Started, Auto Import, Library Management, etc.

Otherwise, I think I shall leave this one to you swiv3d !  ;D

1) The library - is simply a database giving the location of all of your media files.
2) Best to have that database on your main pc not on a NAS somewhere out on a network.
3) Importing files only looks at your system and adds references to any new ones to the database.

You put the media files where you want them, you tell MC to go look, and MC makes a note of where they are. Nothing is actually moved, deleted or added in terms of the actual files - unless you tell MC - I WANT THESE FILES DELETED and even then it says ARE YOU SURE?
