JRiver on QNAP

peterears:
Thank you all for your replies. I can see that I am getting into very unfamiliar territory here. Is it possible please to point me to something that explains setting up a 'Virtual debian host'? (I imagine this will be simpler than the Docker solution from what I've just read. And I would imagine that the shorter path in the VM may deliver better sound quality than using the Raspberry.) NB My DAC can only work with UPNP - it can't work with Roon - does that impact the suggestions about VMs or Raspberry?) Thank you again for helping.

Scobie:
Does your QNAP have "Virtualization Station"? This is where you would build your VM (Virtual Machine).

Debian is just a flavour of Linux and is free to download. So follow the QNAP instructions in Virtualization Station on how to build a VM, and use Debian Linux as your virtual host. You then install MC24 for Linux onto that virtual Machine.

Having said that, it may be worth you doing some homework on the Docker approach. Once you get your head around it this should be even simpler, as the JRiver MC Docker image is already built and just needs to be configured. This method will also be less resource intensive than the VM. I will look to move to it myself when i get some spare time. To use Docker capability on the QNAP use "Container Station" in conjunction with the Docker locations already outlined here.

Cheers

Mikhail:
Greetings.

Sorry for re-post this topic I found a little later and it more closely fits my question.

Please help me with one problem, I successfully installed MC24 in the docker on my QNAP NAS, but I can not access my music folders.
I have it on the path /share/CACHEDEV3_DATA/Music_Los
After trying to mount the directory
--- Code: ----v /share/CACHEDEV3_DATA/Music_Los:/Music: rw
--- End code ---
I see permission denied.
I tried to manually specify

--- Code: ----e USER_ID=0
-e GROUP_ID=0
--- End code ---
But it did not help.
if I mount the entire Share folder to container, like this

--- Code: ----v /share:/share: rw \
--- End code ---
then the directory structure is visible in the MC, but the contents of the folders can not be viewed - permission denied.
What am I doing wrong?
Please help me, thank you!

I have jriver running in a container on qnap. Used jattzoo/jrivermc24:latest. Works with JRemote but can’t get it to output music through the qnap HDMI connection. Anybody know how to do that?

In short, no. No direct experience but I would expect that HD Station could feature as part of the answer. HD Station is the platform that Qnap uses to provide an HDMI driven GUI for the user, which includes sound. Qnap also have some models that are used for Karaoke. So, it all sounds doable. Let us know how you go and report back what you find.
