When Converting, MC21 creates new identical directory instead of existing one

I am attempting to convert files into an existing directory on an external drive, but instead of placing files in that folder, it creates a similar parent directory along with the identical artist and album folder for those files.  Do I have to create a duplicate folder. I thought in the past (haven't used MC in some time) I have been able to just convert to an existing path as long as I set the path before conversation. I do that, but the result every time is to create a second complete duplicate group of folders on that same external drive.  Is that the way the software is designed to work? I don't remember it doing that in the past. What's up?

You shouldn't need to set a path.
