Cover art in .ape files??
« on: June 02, 2003, 10:10:55 am »

Correct me if I am wrong ...
I believe it is not possible to embed cover are in an .ape file.
Am I right?
I hope not!

Thanks

.APE files fully support internal cover art of any size.

Check the "Store cover art inside files" box on the image page of MC and then add images.

That's wierd because I tried that and I thought it was done successfully but when I play a song I just got the generic MC logo in the track info screen.
I then spent about two hours manually going to the properties of every album and re-linking the artwork to an external folder.
What am I doing wrong here?
I then looked at the Tagging properties in Monkeys Audio (not MC) and did not see any settings for image tagging so thought is was a no go.
Also, no cover art shows when serving to another computer over a network.

Look at the "Format" pane inside MC while selecting files to see exactly what's in the tag.

MC has the best / most comprehensive tagging for APE files.  It's better than the tools shipped with Monkey's Audio itself.  ( I wrote the bad tagging tools in Monkey's Audio, so I can say that :P )

Thanks Flobalob.

OK I think I figured it out...
Media Center's plug in for MAC is v3.98 which supports APE2 tags and I have MAC v3.97 installed which supports APE1 tags.
One day I noticed that when looking at files in MAC and checking info, no tags would show. I deduced that Media Center only knew what the songs where from the library database and that the files themselves where not tagged.
I then had MAC 3.97 renew all the tags automatically from the filename. When I then checked the file info in MAC 3.97, they were tagged. All was well except I did not realize that I had erased all the APE2 tags, including the cover art, and replaced them with APE1 tags.
So much for backwards compatibility. It is still a great program though.
So.....here's my plan...
I will update my Monkeys to 3.98
I will go to Media Center and have it update all tags from library.
I will then tell Media Center to store images inside files.
and I should them be good to go.
Can someone confirm this plan before I do it as I don't want to manually add cover art again.
Thanks again Matt
