Heads up for "Headless" Ubuntu 18.04 installers

(1/1)

sekrit:
I installed MC24 on Ubuntu 18.04 without any problem.  I realized that Ubuntu 18.04 desktop sharing does not work if you will be running the JRiver in a headless linux server (i.e. no monitor).  This was not a problem with Ubuntu 16.04.

This is inconvenient if I want to change the settings on the server JRiver.  I will have to connect a monitor everytime I want to change the settings.

It should work anyway, there are 2 fallbacks to screen size calculation in the headless case.
What's it using for desktop sharing?

sekrit:
Success!  I could not find a software solution.  I ended of using a dummy VGA monitor trick which I found here: https://www.geeks3d.com/20091230/vga-hack-how-to-make-a-vga-dummy-plug/  3x 100 ohms resistors worked.
I am connecting to headless Linux from Mac using desktop sharing app.

That really seems to indicate that, in your case at any rate, the fallback isn't working.

If the "fallback" is a solution for headless linux boxes, yes, it wasn't working in 18.04.
