I just installed Arch Linux on an old MSI laptop from 2009. JRiver installed without a hitch, and everything works so far. Audio, soundcards, fonts, everything seems to just work. Impressive development here!
A few notes from the install:
I'm new to Arch Linux, and fairly novice at Linux in general. I built the OS from a USB boot stick using these helpful Youtube tutorials:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5j5oQpij1Q .
The biggest problem I had was tracking down a driver for my legacy graphics card, but once I identified the right package everything worked with the XFCE and MATE GUI's.
I installed Trizen package manager to access the Arch User Repository, AUR. This allowed me to install JRiver using the command:
Trizen -S JRiver
At first, video didn't work. Trizen automatically pulled many dependencies during the JRiver install, but not enough to play video codecs. I installed VLC player, which then installed a number of dependencies for video codecs.
After the VLC install and a reboot, JRiver plays all video without problems.
Also, as a side note: Panel worked in Firefox immediately for music, video, and images. That's also really impressive. I don't need any functionality on the machine other than media playback. With a barebones Linux installation and a web browser, you have a functioning JRiver media player with Panel.
That's it. Great job on the Linux port here, I was expecting a lot more work to get the program to run.
