Maybe.  It's not clear yet whether it will be installable on Android TV.
I hope it will be a goal to get this working. An Android TV into a receiver via HDMI would be a great/simple way to get JRiver streaming audio to my big speakers. Even if the GUI was non-existent and it was only a renderer/zone this would be excellent. A phone could be used for this purpose, but the audio output of a phone is not great and an additional USB DAC is cumbersome.

I do hope it will be or it will rule out some of the most powerful tvs and the best of breed Android box, Nvidia Shield.

We're on your side.  We just don't know yet.  I bought an Nvidia Shield, but I haven't figured out how to get a file on it.

This sounds perfect for the Shield TV. Will the app have any kind of exclusive access to USB DACs, the way that USB Audio Player Pro has? I'd just use that, but I've always had a rough time using the UPnP Renderer and the app doesn't officially support Android TV devices.

No.  It's not just a server.  It is all of JRiver Media Center but without a user interface.  Panel is the interface.  Effectively, it's a media player for Android.  It also is a server -- just like MC is.

My point, like others are saying, is that MC will really be on Android when we can use the Shield with the Harmony remote and a Theater View type interface.

I can use MO 4Media on the Shield now but it has its flaws.

I'll buy this version right away to help support development but don't see using it any time soon.

I just wonder how many "audio quality' features I can expect from it.

I could use it in an Android box with HDMI and SPDIF/Toslink outputs

- Resampler ?
- Parametric EQs ?
- Room correction ?
- Channel redirections ?
- Convolver ?
- 64 bits audio processing ?
- High priority / precision regarding to buffers/timing/clock ?
- Low level control over audio output path ?
. ...

Those features, if we'll implemented,  could become a semi useless box In a very, very interesting high quality audio player. The audio quality and features regarding to it, IMHO, should be a cornerstone of this product.

And ...which is the minimum Android version to run it ?

Thanks!

Does it apply JRiver volume leveling for tracks?

If not it would be useless to me in a vehicle playing playlists.

I see 'Panel' mentioned. Is that an App? Panel Search didnt bring up anything definitive, for me at least. I didnt know exactly what to search for either here or the Play Store. Sorry Im not as quick as I used to be. TIA

I don't mean to criticize, but for the benefit of others reading, please always try a Google search first.

In this case, a search for panel jriver would get you there.

Just a suggestion.

Hi Jim and the team,

Congratulations on the hard work. Looking forward to this.
Will it work with Android Auto so that I can listen to it in my car while it's served from my phone.

Jim,
I feel you are being a little presumptuous. FYI.... I did search before asking but none of my searches here, on google or the play store using the query "panel" revealed anything definitive.  If I had 'known' it was a jriver feature I would have used the query you suggested, but nowhere in this thread was it defined as 'jriver panel' and I thought it may be a third party app. Like I said, that is the only reason why I asked for more info. I am extremely disabled with CTE for over 25 years and everything is more difficult than it used to be. I dont expect you to understand but the way I think and process info is not as effective as it used to be. I am always reluctant to ask questions here because of fear my question may sound like I want to be spoon fed. Maybe it is better not to ask and not know than ask what 'others' consider a stupid question or laziness. I am so sorry I bothered anyone. BTW..... thanks Awesome Donkey

Looking forward to this.  I know it probably will not be tested for Amazon Fire, but currently, I use Gizmo on my Fire Stick and it works pretty good.  I'll give this a shot as well.  When video is supported...

One thing about Panel is it does NOT sort TV shows by Season/Episode.  It just lumps them together in some order, which I have yet to figure out.  Would that be a possibility for the Android version Panel?  Also, the Check Marks for previously watched shows/movies would be nice.

Sorry, I not understand this. For long, I been craving for a JRiver for android devices, meaning having the great functionalities, like covers of all my music, scanning sd card or external disc.

But not so for my phone. But on media boxes, like a Zidoo, where their media center is worthless, and have to continue to use a computer, only to play and index my files well. So what you are saying, is that your Android app, does not does this?

It will not be to used on an android box, and manage covers? Would it from an Android phone be possible like with gizmo to command an Android box to play the files? Not understand very well, sorry.

It's on the Play Store now as beta.  It's $9.98.

https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,118399.0.html

Working Now
Audio playback to the device, using files from the device.

Audio playback to another DLNA device, using files from the device.

Supported audio file types are the same as MC.

It's still a little fragile and probably will be for a few weeks.

Not Working Yet

it is not listed on "google play" apps on the shield, and when I access google play with my PC
under my google account account it says that this application is not compatible with my Nvidia Shield ?

You'd have to sideload it, but I wouldn't recommend trying to get JRiver for Android running on an Android TV box just yet. Android TV is a different beast compared to normal Android and it'd probably not work too well yet.

That, and it's not actually compatible with Android TV (yet). They'd have to add specific support for Android TV for it to appear in the Play Store.

As Awesome Donkey said, you would have to copy it there manually, but I'd love to know what happens if you get it installed.  It might work.

By following the download link in the first post, using a browser on the Shield, I got to the point where I thought it might install, but it said my device was unsupported.  We need to look more closely at this.

JRiver on Android can only play audio that is located in the device's default music directory, at this time.  This will change in the future.

Just learned of this and purchased because I believe the effort deserves support.

I've not tried it yet but will it support OTG? My Nexus 6P is not particularly friendly with accessing external USB sticks or portable HD. Hoping this will be possible.

Also glad to see you are considering Chromecast.

Same here. Our Chevrolet Bolt supports it, and it's nice, except that it only works wired (car limitation), and for some apps, the USB recharging rate doesn't keep up with the rate of battery discharging. If it worked wirelessly, a QuickCharge charger could be used. As I understand, it's not possible to deliver QuickCharge and data from a single USB cable.

Go to the settings page (gear icon in the upper right) and change "Playing to" to "Player." The zone "Here" which refers to the browser doesn't work on the Android app without disabling forced conversion. The "Here" zone will be removed from the Android app soon.
