DSD conversion on the fly
« on: May 01, 2018, 09:56:22 pm »

I'm running JRiver from an oldish Nuc. I tried it with 1c and 2x DSD and got the message that it can't play it back - I tried with DoP and it was very stuttery (don't think that's a word:)

Can anyone tell me what kind of processor is necessary to convert PCM to 2X DSD on the fly in a windows 10 machine?

Thanks

If I had to take a shot at the dark knowing how CPU-intensive on-the-fly DSD conversions are, I'd recommend at least an Intel Core-i5 from the last couple generations or higher CPU or an AMD Ryzen 5 2000-series or higher CPU would be sufficient, I'm thinking. I'm sure some of the others would have other recommendations. It's possible a Core-i3 might work too, but IMO that might be a bit on low end in order to get the job done.

Hi,
I'm converting from PCM (any bit rate) to DSD128 with an i3, and it works very well!
I start having problems (noise) when trying to to go DSD256 (the maximum allowed by my Audiolab M-DAC+).
An i5 could be better?
Thanks

I have tested that with my core i-3, but it has pops and crack's and did not work. You need more core's!
