Web radio streaming playback problem
« on: November 09, 2018, 05:18:34 pm »

I'm trying to play this Classic FM stream but after 2-3 minutes playback breaks (gets in a sort of loop). Can you please verify this? Thanks.

You probably missed the link - it's there. File/Open URL.

EDIT OK see the rather obscure link but how are you playing it through MC?

You still cannot find the link? This is weird.  :)

Here it is: http://media-ice.musicradio.com/ClassicFMMP3

I've already mentioned this, too. File/Open URL, paste the link, OK.

edit: well, actually, I've saved the station to the Library and double-click it, so I don't really use the Open URL method.

There is something wrong with that link - when i add it to the streaming section it just asks do I want to save the file, are you sure the link is correct?

I don't think the new streaming section is supposed to work like that. It does not accept direct streaming URL's, at least that's what I've recently read here on Interact. Just use the method I told you.

You have forgotten to add the .m3u suffix to your link address

Just added http://media-ice.musicradio.com/ClassicFMMP3.m3u to the streaming section and as you pointed out it does go into an annoying repeat of a phrase after the first song.

Ok, thanks for testing it. I didn't forget it, that's the way I found it. In this case, having the .m3u (or not having it) does not make any difference, at least with Open URL.

Anyway, from some quick tests it seems the "Memory playback/Load decoded file into memory" setting is causing the problem. Do you have memory playback enabled swiv3d?

Any chance for a fix? It doesn't seem to affect other similar radio streams I play.

Seems to work ok if load file into memory is not selected. Some live streams cannot push a complete file at once to the recipient and this seems to be true of the classic fm site you are using. Anyway thanks for giving me a new radio link to listen to ;D

Ok, thanks for confirming. Hope a fix can be found, even if it just silently disables memory playback in such cases. Manually switching it on and off is no fun.  8)

Having load full file into memory is really just a gimmick - I would just switch it off permanently (As I have done) there is no advantage as far as i can see for having it switched on. ( OK it might be helpful if you are downloading files froma NAS drive on a dodgy network but hey - fix the network!)

I'll take a look Monday.  One type of memory playback disables for URL's but maybe not the other.

Next build we'll try this:
Changed: The memory playback model "Load decoded file into memory" no longer engages when playing a URL.
